Urban Planner at Nacka Municipality

Your Mission

Your mission is to be responsible for the development of strategic material within the framework of comprehensive planning while having a good understanding of the municipality's overall land and water use, both in the short and long term. The role requires the ability to see the big picture – how land use, traffic, green issues, and urban development strategies actually connect and influence each other in practice.

You will take a leading role in traffic strategic issues as a particular focus, but you are also expected to switch between perspectives and issues within comprehensive planning that need to be facilitated or project managed (green issues, cultural environment, water issues, etc.). The mission involves leading complex issues at an early stage, where the ability to create structure, overview, and direction is central.

A significant part of the work consists of contact and collaboration with colleagues in the organization. Therefore, you need to navigate between many forums, create understanding and context, and make complex information comprehensible for different target groups.

A new comprehensive plan is expected to be adopted by the end of 2025, and you will be involved in the subsequent work with rolling comprehensive planning. We are currently in a phase where we are strengthening and developing working methods for the implementation and follow-up of the comprehensive plan's intentions. You will also be involved in the development of working methods for area analyses and area planning.

In this role, you are expected to have an innovative, analytical, and creative approach: to be able to find new approaches, see opportunities, and connect insights from various sources to enhance the strategic understanding and overall coherence in the municipality's urban development portfolio.

As an urban planner, you will inform and inspire the entire municipal urban development process to contribute to an attractive and sustainable Nacka. Together with colleagues, you will further develop a process-oriented working method, overall approach, working methods, and routines. The work also includes responding to referrals and motions and being able to compile and highlight complex issues.

We are looking for a person with good knowledge and experience in comprehensive planning and who is accustomed to driving projects and processes related to urban development and community planning at a strategic level.

As a person, you are communicative, driven, analytical, and have a natural ability to collaborate. You can quickly create an overview of complex issues and thrive in a role that switches between the big picture and details. This role suits you if you are strategically curious, see opportunities, and want to help develop how Nacka works with comprehensive planning – not just manage existing methods.

You enjoy working with various types of issues and find it easy to understand how perspectives are interconnected. You have a working style that ties together knowledge from several areas and are comfortable moving cross-functionally.

You are attentive and good at presenting complex issues in an easily understandable way. We value your ability to both create structure and dare to test new approaches in the development of methods and working practices.

Your Experience

• Academic degree in urban planning, urban development, or other equivalent education.
• Experience working with urban development and community planning at a strategic level with a particular focus on traffic strategic issues, but also experience handling complex tasks in other areas.
• Worked in your area of expertise for at least 7–10 years and have experience driving and leading process-oriented assignments as well as working with change management.
• Experience in method development and renewed working methods to create conditions for effective processes, especially in the early stages of the community building process.
